Lab #9: Speed of Sound
12/7/2012
Average Velocity = 348.584 m/s
Sources of Error: The temperature was not taken into account, which is a
possible source of error. The temperature of the Physics classroom was 22.2°C
while the temperature at which the speed of sound is 331 m/s is 0°C. The speed
of sound is supposed to be higher in the classroom because sounds travel
faster in higher temperatures since the molecules vibrate faster in the warm
air.
The length of air column was determined by our ears, which could also be imprecise

Reflection: Producing sounds with tuning forks and water was a great experience for me! What I liked the most about this lab was applying Physics to music and relating them together. By doing this lab, I learned that different notes have different frequencies and different qualities. I also learned that temperature contributes to the speed of sound.
